Energy-Aware Alignment
Spinopelvic alignment, framed as an energy-minimization problem. The skill ships as a complete clinical-research bundle: the workbench capsule, a manuscript core, a statistical analysis plan, a risk register, a codebook, and a synthetic validation dataset. Use it to plan a study, validate against a synthetic cohort before touching real data, and ship the result as a sealed package.
Alignment isn't a target.
It's a minimum.
The standard spinopelvic playbook treats alignment as a destination — get the patient inside the PI–LL band, get SVA under 4 cm. Energy-aware alignment reframes the same problem as an optimization: of all the geometries that satisfy the bands, which one minimizes the muscular/postural energy cost the patient pays to stand and walk?
Energy as compensation cost
Pelvic retroversion and knee flexion are the body's compensatory levers when alignment goes outside the band. The cost is metabolic and muscular. Energy framing makes that cost explicit.
Same inputs, different ordering
The candidate corrections (ΔLL, segmental SLL, PSO wedge) are ranked by energy reduction, not by target distance. Often the same correction; sometimes a different one.
Compatible with SPIN-THA
EAA reads SPIN-THA's reproducibility manifest natively and re-runs ranking under the energy objective.
A complete
clinical-research kit.
Not just a tool — the artefacts a journal reviewer would ask for before reading the results section.
Full product capsule
Energy_Aware_Alignment_FULL_PRODUCT_CAPSULE.html — the workbench.
Manuscript core
MANUSCRIPT_CORE.md — the spine of the paper, ready to expand.
Statistical Analysis Plan
STATISTICAL_ANALYSIS_PLAN.md — pre-specified analysis, registered before the data lands.
Risk register
RISK_REGISTER.csv — every identified risk with mitigation and owner.
Codebook
CODEBOOK.csv — every variable's definition, type, units, and source.
Synthetic validation dataset
SYNTHETIC_VALIDATION_DATASET.csv — labeled synthetic cohort to validate the engine before real-data exposure.
Manifest
MANIFEST.json — file inventory + SHA-256 + the integrity contract.
SHIVA config example
EXAMPLE_SHIVA_CONFIG.json — show your team how to wire EAA into their SHIVA install.
The SAP, risk register, and synthetic validation set are usually missing.
Most "research kits" you'll find are a notebook plus a CSV. This bundle ships the artefacts that pre-registration, ethics, and peer review actually require — and that prevent the half of the post-hoc decisions that erode trust in clinical research.
